Capolavori del Patrimonio Orale e Immateriale

A partire dal 1999 è attivo il programma Unesco “Capolavori del patrimonio orale e immateriale dell’umanità” (Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity). Il riconoscimento dell'Unesco avviene attraverso una "Proclamazione" e secondo dei criteri specifici previsti dal programma stesso. Allo stato attuale sono 90 i casi di riconoscimento  di patrimonio orale e intangibile dell’umanità in tutto il mondo avvenuti in tre distinte "proclamazioni": 2001 (19 riconoscimenti=; 2003 (28 riconoscimenti) e 2005 (43 riconoscimenti).

I beni Immateriali italiani inseriti nella lista sono 2: Il teatro dei pupi siciliani inserito nel 2001 e la tradizione orale dei pastori sardi inserita nel 2005.
